Norma Leclair, RN, Ph.D., the founder of The Leclair Company, has more than 30 years experience related to individual and organizational performance, work ability and work restoration. Norma brings a wealth of human relations experience to her consultation work. People who manifest resilience and endurance when faced with adversity have inspired her. She has learned that the capacity to succeed depends more on how we relate to each other than our technical knowledge or analytical abilities. Our capacity to engender trust, build relationships, and listen without judgment is fundamental to both personal fulfillment and organizational success.
This perspective has shaped her work as a consultant to business and industry, health care systems, many of the leading long-term disability and workers' compensation insurers and reinsurers, community non-profit organizations and government agencies. Norma has worked with numerous employers, employees, health care providers and insurers to prevent and manage work disability. She has helped employers, health care providers and insurers create processes that support employees in restoring their ability to function successfully at work following an occupational or non-occupational illness or injury. She has led organizations in their efforts to establish or refine their mission and craft a plan that guides their current actions toward their vision for the future.
Norma is a leading expert on the relationship between complex medical issues, psychiatric impairment, and work restoration. She served as the consulting editor for psychiatric disorders for the 2001 edition of the Medical Disability Advisor. She has authored numerous articles, monographs and book chapters related to impairment and disability. Several articles have appeared in recent issues of the AMA Guides Newsletter. She also co-authored "Impairment and Disability: Mental and Behavioral Disorders" in the Clinics in Occupational and Environmental Medicine. She received her BS from The University of Southern Maine, her MA from the University of Iowa and her Ph.D. from The Ohio State University.
Steven Leclair, Ph.D., CRC, a principal at The Leclair Company, also has more than 30 years of experience related to individual and organizational performance, work ability and work restoration. He has enjoyed many opportunities in his professional life to work and grow among people with divergent points of view and experiences. He has learned to appreciate what can be accomplished when these artificial borders are crossed and we communicate openly and with integrity. Steve strives to identify and work with the points of collaboration that unite us in a common mission rather than focusing on differences that keep us apart.
Steve is a licensed psychologist and certified rehabilitation counselor. He is an accomplished clinical and program evaluation specialist and an internationally recognized authority on program development and policy related to disability, rehabilitation and work. His executive leadership and management experience in both profit and non-profit organizations brings insight and a strong degree of practicality to consulting clients.
As a consultant, Steve has worked collaboratively with hundreds of businesses and industrial firms, hospitals and community health care providers, non-profit organizations, government agencies and insurance carriers both nationally and internationally to help them develop pragmatic and cost effective disability prevention and work restoration programs. He has also guided a wide variety of organizations, groups and individuals in their quest to map their local terrain and discover their path into the future.
Steve has authored more than 50 publications including books, book chapters, articles and monographs related to disability, rehabilitation, health care and work.
